(American) Cocker Spaniel

American Cocker Spaniel puppy

In the early days of spaniel development breeds became differentiated by purpose, such as land or water spaniels, springing or cocking spaniels. Their ability hunting woodcock gave the name Cocker to these smaller members of the spaniel family. The Cocker (or American Cocker to the rest of the world since it derived from the original English Cocker) is 14-15 inches tall, and comes in three color varieties: Black, ASCOB (Any Solid Color Other than Black), and Parti-Color.

<-- Cocker Spaniel puppy "Bronco" is already showing retrieving ability at 9 weeks old.

Cocker Spaniel "Molly" was the only qualifier .... at the grand age of 13 years! .... at MRSSA's first Tracking Match in March, 1999. Showing her ability to use her nose this was her "umpteenth" time passing a tracking test.

Pictured left to right are judge Sil Sanders, tracklayer Lisa Peters, judge Franna Gillespie, and proud owner Joyce Kolkmann with "Molly".
