In these events spaniels are judged on their hunting ability: finding, flushing and retrieving game. AKC Hunting Tests have 3 levels from basic to advanced (Junior, Senior, Master) at which dogs must gain qualifying scores to earn titles. In Field Trials wins are required for Field Championships, and the dogs all work at an advanced level: steadiness to wing and shot, bracework and honoring. Several MRSSA club members compete in Hunting Tests and Field Trials, and enjoy their spaniels as hunting companions. Each year MRSSA and several other Northwest spaniel clubs join to host a cluster of AKC Hunting Tests over Labor Day weekend. MRSSA also holds a combined Hunting, Working Certificate, and American Water Spaniel test weekend in May. (See club events calendar).
